Fairlington Community Center
Low Impact Development
In support of their renovation and low impact development initiative, RCF provided surveying and design services for the 8.18 acre Fairlington Community Center. Specific tasks included renovation of the existing community center, a new parking lot, playing field and basketball court as well as numerous proposed pathways to provide adequate pedestrian connectivity to and from each facility throughout the site.
To arrive at an overall strategy that protects and uses natural flow pathways and preserves natural features in overall stormwater planning and design, a bioretention filter (rain garden) and cartridge filter system was installed to mitigate water quality/quantity impacts from the proposed and existing improvements. This project demonstrates that any community is capable of making the fundamental shift towards LID and providing leadership for other communities to make similar changes.
